A Challenge for Immigrants: Preserving traditional culture in the United States

It is difficult for immigrants to preserve their culture in the United States. When they come over at first, they are still true to their background and homeland, and perhaps with the American Ideals of equal rights and freedom in mind. They are ready to take onnew ideas and to get into the mix of the American melting pot and it's many different cultures.

As America is a melting pot, there is a vast nework of intercultural ideals and mixing. Some neighborhoods consist of many different cultural backgrounds; meanwhile some of them are purely of one race. The network has been generated by communication. Immigrants who live in say, Kansas, are somewhat dissconnected and they will find that their culture is easily practicd therewithout foreign ideas influencing them. Such tings like the Internet, Television, Phone, and car make people connected. These influences are available to many people in America, aking them influential on a person. What a person might see on a television show, he/she may adapt that as a part of their personality. wheras the other devices can have the same effect. These can and probably are for the most part, very American devices, which in turn can affect the immigrant looking for ideals or entertainment.

Now an immigrant that comes from say, a third world country. may quickly take in the American ideals, as they perhaps are more positive and improve peoples lives significantly. Therefore the immigrant will probably be more receptive of the new belief system. However an immigrant from perhaps, a European country might stick to their culture for many years or forever before off and mixing with the melting pot and essentially becoming an American.

Language is a significant issue with immigrants also, unless the're from an English speaking country or know English, they're going to have to learn it as an America's official language is English and almost everyone speaks it. In order to reach your goals in America you will probably have to learn English, although this isn't always the case as soe of the immigrants will live in a commumiy of immigrants from the same countries.

Immifrants will continue to come to America. With them they bring their various ideas and cultural acts. Their ideas get mixed into the crowd, but their ideas will always be remembered by themselves. It would take any years for someone to lose their ideals, as by then they would've become more American than theur previous background.
