Betrayal of Trust
Betrayal changes the way one thinks about the world. In Anton Chekhov's short story, a Trifle from real life, a young boy's view of life is changed when he is betrayed. Aliosha, a young boy who lived in 19th century Russia learns that his mother's lover, Nikolai cannot be trusted. After swearing to keep secret the truth that Aliosha visits hi father, Nikolai tell's Aliosha's mother, Olga, the matter in hand. The betrayal of trust alters Aliosha's character, and his actionsand thoughts, once pure and innocent, are filled with anger and desire for revenge. A survey of someones life can reveal how trustworthy they are.Nikolai Ilitch belayeff, a man in his early 30's from St. Petersburg, is going through an extra-marital affair with Olga Ivanovna, therefore he is not to be trusted. The fact that Nikolai is going through a love affair, tells us that he is not trustworthy and in that matter not know how to be faithful to one when given the chance.
